--- title: Apparently, This Is the Best Week of the Year to Buy a House description: Is there really a best week to buy a house? Here’s what the 2026 data says—and what buyers are seeing in Maine and New Hampshire. image: https://priscillaweston.com/hubfs/best%20week%20to%20buy.png --- [![2025logo](https://priscillaweston.com/hs-fs/hubfs/2025logo.png?width=85&height=85&name=2025logo.png "2025logo")](https://www.priscillaweston.com) [![](https://priscillaweston.com/hs-fs/hubfs/2025logo.png?width=250&height=250&name=2025logo.png)](http://Priscilla%20Band%20Weston,%20Realtor) [![](https://priscillaweston.com/hs-fs/hubfs/2025logo.png?width=250&height=250&name=2025logo.png)](http://Priscilla%20Band%20Weston,%20Realtor) This is a search field with an auto-suggest feature attached. - There are no suggestions because the search field is empty. - [Home](https://priscillaweston.com) - [Listings](https://priscillaweston.com/listing) - [About](https://priscillaweston.com/about-us) - [Contact](https://priscillaweston.com/contact1) - [Blog](https://priscillaweston.com/blog) This is a search field with an auto-suggest feature attached. - There are no suggestions because the search field is empty. # Apparently, This Is the Best Week of the Year to Buy a House by [Priscilla Weston](https://priscillaweston.com/blog/author/priscilla-weston) | Sep 30, 2026 I know. That sounds suspiciously like something a Realtor would say. But there’s actually data behind it. I promise I didn’t make this up at a sales meeting. Every year, Realtor.com looks at home prices, inventory, competition, days on market and price reductions to identify what it calls the **best week of the year to buy a home.** For 2026, nationally, that week is **September 27–October 3.** Literally right now. That doesn’t mean houses suddenly got cheap, interest rates became delightful, or everyone should run out and buy one before Friday. It means this is the point in the year when buyers tend to get a pretty good combination of **more choices, less competition and more negotiating room.** And that tracks pretty closely with what I’m seeing here in Maine and New Hampshire. There are still houses getting multiple offers when they’re priced well. But we’re also seeing more homes make it through the first weekend. More price adjustments. More sellers willing to have a conversation instead of asking for your firstborn child and all contingencies waived. And buyers are getting something they haven’t had much of for the last few years: **Time to think.** For a while, buying a house looked like this: House hits Thursday. See it Saturday. Offers due Sunday. Make one of the largest financial decisions of your life before dinner. Very normal. Very relaxing. So no, I’m not declaring this **THE WEEK YOU MUST BUY A HOUSE.** Markets are local, and whether it’s a good time for *you* to buy depends much more on your finances, your plans and what’s happening in the particular towns you’re considering than it does on a date on the calendar. But if you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the housing market to feel a little less frantic? It might be worth taking another look. And if you're curious about what the numbers actually look like in your town, I'm always happy to pull them. ✨ - Priscilla - - - - Recent posts [I Have Trust Issues With Freshly Painted Basements (And Other Things I Notice at House Showings)](https://priscillaweston.com/blog/i-have-trust-issues-with-freshly-painted-basements-and-other-things-i-notice-at-house-showings) [Apparently, This Is the Best Week of the Year to Buy a House](https://priscillaweston.com/blog/apparently-this-is-the-best-week-of-the-year-to-buy-a-house) [A Small House for Someone With Big Plans](https://priscillaweston.com/blog/a-small-house-for-someone-with-big-plans) [I Wish I Could Clone My Last Seller](https://priscillaweston.com/blog/i-wish-i-could-clone-my-last-seller) [The Best Homes Leave Room for Possibility](https://priscillaweston.com/blog/the-best-homes-leave-room-for-possibility) Keller Williams Coastal and Lakes & Mountains Realty 750 Lafayette Rd. #201 Portsmouth, NH 03801 [O: 603.610.8500](tel:317-234-5678) [C: 207.218.0240](tel:317-234-5678) FOLLOW ALONG [Follow us on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/priscillabandweston) [Follow us on LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/priscillabandweston/) - HOME - [LISTINGS](https://priscillaweston.com/listings) - [ABOUT](https://priscillaweston.com/about) - [CONTACT](https://priscillaweston.com/contact) - SEARCH © 2024 Priscilla Band Weston, REALTOR |  Privacy Policy ```json { "@context" : "https://schema.org", "@type" : "BlogPosting", "author" : { "@type" : "Person", "name" : "Priscilla Weston", "url" : "https://priscillaweston.com/blog/author/priscilla-weston" }, "dateModified" : "2026-10-08T00:03:46.169Z", "datePublished" : "2026-09-30T17:15:00.000Z", "headline" : "Apparently, This Is the Best Week of the Year to Buy a House", "image" : [ "https://priscillaweston.com/hubfs/best%20week%20to%20buy.png" ], "mainEntityOfPage" : { "@id" : "https://priscillaweston.com/blog/apparently-this-is-the-best-week-of-the-year-to-buy-a-house", "@type" : "WebPage" }, "publisher" : { "@type" : "Organization", "logo" : { "@type" : "ImageObject", "url" : "https://priscillaweston.com/hubfs/2025logo.png" }, "name" : "Priscilla Band Weston, Realtor" } } ```
